Our story

Poured slowly, by hand

Ember & Wick began at a kitchen table in Nairobi, with one pot of wax and a wish for candles that smelt as good on the last evening as on the first.

We still pour every candle by hand, in small batches, so each one gets proper attention. We use natural soy wax for a clean, even burn and cotton wicks that don't leave black smoke on your walls. Each candle then rests for two weeks before it leaves us, so the scent has time to settle.

Spend an unhurried afternoon in our Nairobi studio and learn to make a candle from start to finish: choosing a scent, blending the wax, setting the wick and pouring. Come alone, bring a friend, or book a private session for a birthday or team day.

Candle care

A few small rituals

  1. 01

    Trim the wick

    Before each burn, trim the wick to about 5mm for a calm, steady flame with no smoke.

  2. 02

    The first burn

    Let your first burn last 2–3 hours, until the melted wax reaches the edge of the jar.

  3. 03

    Away from drafts

    Keep candles away from open windows and fans so the flame stays still and burns evenly.

  4. 04

    Four hours at most

    Burn for no more than 4 hours at a time, then let the candle cool before lighting it again.

Good to know

Within Nairobi, orders usually arrive in 1–2 working days by rider. We send outside Nairobi countrywide by courier, usually within 2–4 working days. We'll confirm the delivery fee for your area on WhatsApp before you pay.

It depends on the size: our 120g candles burn for around 25 hours, 200g for about 45 hours and 300g for about 60 hours. Follow the care tips above and you'll get every last hour out of them.

Natural soy wax, cotton wicks and quality fragrance oils, poured into reusable glass jars. No paraffin. Once your candle is finished, clean the jar with warm soapy water and use it again.

Yes. We make gift sets, custom hampers and bulk orders for weddings, events and corporate gifts, including custom labels. Message us on WhatsApp with your date and quantity, and give us about two weeks' notice for larger orders.
